the website
the website is almost ready to go, i just need a few things...
1. The sponsors.. who ever is in control of the sponsors could they please let me know who they are so I can add their logos (also remi said something about one sponsor wanting to put a quiz on the site?)
2. A handful of the SWFs people gave me have some problems when they load in they are as follows (you will be able to see what I mean if you go to the site, link is at bottom)
- Helen Z - Smoking Clock - No background colour
- Laura - Dream Escape - doesnt load properly
- Nat - Eye - No background colour
- Remi - Clock - no background colour
- Shane - Outbreak - external swfs wont load in when the main swf is loaded into the site (i think)
- Twinsen - Argument - doesnt play properly + no background colour
- Bubble Hour - Sort of works... some areas wont click to add bubbles
- Gill - quiz game - doesnt play properly
Some do still look ok but others will have to be excluded if we cant resolve the problems. You can either replace it with something else or fix it.
All images and videos are fine.
3. I need some higher res images for the slide show - 72dpi, roughly 1000px x 400px. If you want an image in the slide show just email it to me, or give it to me on friday 13th. Only 1 per person.
4. Everyone needs to go to the site (link below) and make sure their work and info is all correct (no spelling mistakes etc), and check that their work loads (some links may be misspelt). And also let me know if you find any bugs.
4. If anyone wants to add their major project to the website, same specs as before, and include a 300x300px thumbnail. Please give it to me by friday 13th.
I wont accept anything after friday the 13th, since I want the site to go live no later than monday 16th, which is 4 days before the exhibition!
I will be at uni on friday 13th from 1 - 3 in the studio
link to the test website:

note: all the fonts will be changed to the handwritten font used on the dvd
I hope that is all!

Way to run SHAG time.
I know we were thinking of having like a round robin thing where the winner stays and they battle it out or whatever. but because we have so many games it would be a shame if we just concentrated on one game.
So! I had a lightbulb moment:
why don't for every game someone wins they get a ticket. and if they get 5 drinks they get a ticket so the gryph gets something out of it too so maybe they can supply nibblies or discount drinks or something. and at the end of the night we can auction off the toaster to the person with the most tickets. or if they want they can group together their tickets for the toaster. Ooo .. if they pay money they get a ticket too.. so we get moneys from doing ... practically nothing ..
P.S. I tried to order the toaster. but it only ships to US or canada. thats not the biggest problem coz i can get it shipped to canada and then shipped here. The toaster costs AUD$63 plus shipping it might be close to $120... $150 if we wanna get it here in time. thats 15 ppl's entry fee. So do we still wanna go with this or find something else?

Concept Advanced
-Epilogue Wonderland-
The shapes were hard to project onto, perhaps it would have served better to have solid shapes to project onto and have other smaller shapes to enhance the space, create the objects around the space. The projections themselves were not clear because we were using S-Video out cables instead of the digital cables as IT ran out, this lead to the projections being blurred slightly. there was also the green screen wall which tinted all the projections on that wall.
as for peoples experience in the space i think it depended how you entered the space. were you looking to view the projections as they are? or be taken into the crazy jagged moving image space? That breaks down to the audience were trying to capture for the end of year exhib. Multimedia buffs.
In the original design of the exhibition space the projections that are meant to be watched have their own clear/clean space to project onto and around the space enhancing these "windows" is the abstract space for which light to play on and emerge people in the atmosphere. As Troy said the hardest part is going to be the balance between clear viewing and engaging atmosphere/space.
As a recap, if you look at the picture in the header, the booths for computer stations could be removed and a lighting/ sound mixing table added in. with a multi-touch screen for controls, viewers could take over that "small" space. depending on how successful we can make it(also costing). we can build this up as a visual synthesizer.
also the middle viewing booth i was thinking of having almost flat on the ground, having a projector on the roof aiming down. this would open up the space and not segment it to corridors. the angle wouldn't be completely flat possible a 45 degree or less. the seating i would still like to appear in the final design.
Open day in the interior architecture section they also had a small video installation which no one in our year has thought up yet. rear projection. i believe its something we've overlooked as Rebecca said the projections were in people eyes. its something to think about for our projection areas.

Documentation: Wonderland Debrief
[Doco]Lights and Sound Play fr. Cardboard Mayhem
* Extreme flashing/blinking lights can be cool but straining on eyes
* Sudden glow spots/spot lights can be used to high light certain aspects of the exhibition at random
* Tracking someone with a spot light could prove to be annoying
* Automatic lights (sensor lights) could be used from the door way to lead the audience into the space. i.e a trail, instead of following footsteps, follow light spots
Projectors
* Alister pointed out that projectors which sit opposite to each other will shine into people's eyes while they are looking at the respective projection
** Maybe we should place them up higher?
* Cam suggested we place projectors on the ceiling as well, in case the room gets really crowded and the projector's lights are covered, if there is a projector on the ceiling, there will still be something screening. projected onto a surface in the room
Sound
* Shane imagines sound with a strong beat - not heavy and over-powering, but an obvious beat
* Sound is not a major concern though, it is more about the visual effect of the UV stuff
Questions/Suggestions
* Troy suggested live dj'ing of lighting and sound on opening nights
* Qn: How much light dj'ing is needed considering the exhibition is supposed to glow in the dark?
* Qn: How should Isadora (video dj software) be used for UV/Handmade?
**As Cam showed us, we could use it to manipulate visuals via sound/music made in the room

More Fundraising!
The Guitar hero thing we can even advertise on Open day. get some more coverage of it.
i don't understand the chocolates thing, we put up 1152 to get the chocolates then do we get back 2304?? think thats right...
its a definite for the guitar hero comp an a LAN well have to figure out in a meeting.
i guess i better get organising all this then ey!
as for me holding a movie night, dunno if we can charge ppl for that..... we might be able to auction off some gold class tickets...??
Also what i was thinking for open day is a guess jar. a huuge jar filled with jelly beans or something. $1 per guess, 6 for $5 maybe, closest wins at the end of the day.

Fundraising
I just wanted some feedback on what you guys thought about fundraising. It would be a good idea to start it before we get too bombarded with all our assignments..
1. Guitar Hero Competition
So this guitar hero thing also may involve a LAN party, and maybe alcohol as bait? But I think we need a group meeting to sort out the details of this major $$$ making oppurtunity. Meeting after Open Day?
2. Cadbury Chocolates
This can be done now, and as an ongoing thing during semester. All we have to do is order the chocolate boxes in from Cadbury. (p.s. Vis Com does the same, so if we start now... we can beat them to it and by the time they start ppl will be sick of chocolate and they wont have any money for their exhibition) Ok. So!
There's around 20 of us. If we sell 2 boxes each. We buy 40 boxes. That means we make $1152 profit!
But we need $1152 to buy those 40 boxes.
3. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
These sound super super yummy. The minimum number of boxes you can get is 50. So we'll have to do a lot of selling... But i suppose we(maybe jsut me) might just eat like a whole box myself. They're $10 a box to buy but we sell them for $15 a box. Making a $250 profit?
Anyone interested?
4. Movie Night/Poker Night
We wont be able to hold any of these at Uni so some lovely accomodating person *cough cough* Shane will have to offer up their house for a night of bonding.
So anyone with anymore ideas please let me know so we can get cracking. And if anyone knows where we can get $1152 from to get the chocolates let me know as well. :D
Thank you!!

Melbourne Graffiti
If any one's interested :
Melbourne Ink
Saturday July 18th
4pm at ACMI
Melbourne is home to some of the best graffiti artists in the world. Laneways across the city have been encrusted with street art and have become popular backdrops for wedding photographs, international backpackers, even tourism campaigns.
Furthering the debate are filmmakers Romain Levrault and Julien Sena and their recent snapshot of the current graffiti landscape with interviews from some of the big names in graffiti and street art: Andrew Chew, Andy Mac, Miso, Ghost Patrol, HaHa, Drew, Meggs, Reka, Vexta, Phibs and Rone.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers, street and graffiti artists, Gordon Harrison (City of Melbourne), Dr Lachlan MacDowall (VCA) and other special guests. Then join us at 6pm for the book launch and signing of Kings Way: The Beginnings of Australian Graffiti, Melbourne 1983 - 1993 in the ACMI Function Space

Business card
Does anyone want to place your contact details in front of your artworks in the exhibition?
I think it may b a good idea that we can make our own business cards for both ourselves and the visitors, just in case they are interested in us ^^
If we are going to make it, do we make our cards in the same format/design?
or we design for our own ones?

Just a little suggestion ^^
Although I said that I would post this to the blog before, haven't done so till now, sori Shane...
Actually, I have a little suggestion for the projection in the space:
Do u guys think it's a good idea to project the clouds animation that i made, onto the ceiling and floor in the exhibition space?
As the clouds are hand made as well, so i think it still suits the theme? @w@??
We can also make the clouds (still images) glows on the wall under the UV light, I found they reali look good in the dark backgroud ^^
pls see the samples below
(there are more on my blog if u want to see: hmremidesigndiary.blogspot.com)
Soooo... how is it? Just tell whatever u think, pls ^^
